**This family member added Sept 2011:
Adam and I purchased our first house in 2003 when I was pregnant with Lucy. It was a teeny tiny little house. And it was LITERALLY smaller in square footage than a double wide mobile home! see...

But, even though it was a small little shack, it was our very first home, and for that I will always love it! Plus, after living in it for 2 years, we actually made a decent profit when we sold it {by owner, might I say! I still give myself a pat on the back for selling the house all by myself!}
And when I was pregnant with Elliot, we decided that we were not all going to fit in that house, so we started looking for bigger places to call home. That's when we found our "little blue house", but actually, it's a LOT of house!
For whatever reason {which Adam and I are still scratching our heads about}, we decided to move about 50 miles from all of our family. In a rural suburb, surrounded by cornfields...and more cornfields. I think we may have been swayed by the price, the size, and the 0.70 acre lot! We closed in December 2005, about a week or two before Christmas. With all the craziness of moving into a new house, and having an infant around, it was a long time before we did any sort of decorating. We didn't even PAINT any of the rooms for the first year or so! Until recently the only things we had done was paint the family room, kitchen, kid's room, and hallway.
That's when we started this blog, to help organize and document our renovations. Then...we had another baby, and while we were still successful in doing the renovations we wanted, I was less than successful in photographing, documenting, and blogging them. (Which is why there wasn't a blog post for nearly a year!)
So, this leads me to now (July 2013). We're on our way out of "the little blue house", and into this house:
This is our NO EXCUSES house. Not only will we have time, but we will also have family! This house is nestled on a street surrounded by family! We'll have Adam's parents on one side, not to mention his brothers down the street, his uncles across the street, and various other uncles, cousins, family members within walking distance! We'll have more help than we'll know what to do with! This is the house we've wanted for our entire marriage. It's been in the family since it was built in the 1930's, and I am thrilled to keep it in the family!
But, it is far from our dream home...yet. Every room needs work, some more than others. And we even have long-term plans to add a 2-story addition, covered porch, and deck. There is so much potential in this house, and I can wait to dig in and make it OURS!
So, our list is long and tedious, and I hope that it will become a growing experience for us. If we can fix all the broken, ugly, and dysfunctional parts of our house, and turn it into a beautiful, functional home...then we can do anything!!
Here's to growing up!!
XOXO,
Marcia
