office: floor in progress

The office is getting closer and closer to being ready to use! I installed about 1/2 of the room by myself, and stopped when I realized that I would need help cutting the next plank. It needs to go around the closet door-frame, so it'll need a wide-notch to do it. I knew I wouldn't be able to cut it out with the miter saw, so it needs the hand saw...which means I need my husband's help, and he's at work. So this is as far as I could get on my own:

One thing we have learned is to BE GENEROUS with the spacers!  We bought about 3 packages of spacers, and in order to get the recommended space gap between the flooring and the wall, we had to use 2 spacers each time.

we will also be installing a white quarter round trim to conceal the remaining gaps, and give the whole thing a more finished look.

When we started this project, this was definitely a MUST HAVE splurge!  It's a Skil 12" Compound Miter Saw and the only saw we have that I feel confident using without help.  I guess I just feel better when the saw is attached to something, instead of hand-held.  I think if I were able to get a table saw, our cutting collection would be complete!

All in all, I'm feeling GREAT about how it's coming along, and the fact that I'm doing my first head to toe room remodel...just like a real grown-up!

XOXO,
Marcia
