re-think the re-purposed end table

After the paint on the end table dried, I picked up some clear gloss spray paint

I sprayed 2 coats, and left it outside to dry before bringing it in.

BUT, when I came back outside to bring the end table in, I found our cat's footprints all over the top!!  I tried to wash it off, but she must have done it when it was still wet, because I couldn't get rid of it.

{it's a little hard to see in this picture, but if you look closely you can see tiny little faded footprints.}

So, I took a deep breath and decided that I didn't want to waste all my hard work, so maybe I could upholster the top to make a fun ottoman/short stool {with storage space} for the kids' playroom!  I immediately went out to buy some foam padding and fun fabric, and luckily I had a roll of quilter's batting, and I put the whole thing together...

First, I cut the foam padding to size, then wrapped it with the quilter's batting, stapling the batting into place.

Then, I cut the fabric about 5" larger than the size of the table, and started the process of stapling the whole thing nice and tight.  Since I was making this for the playroom, I chose a really soft jersey fabric.  {Lucy kept saying "It's so cozy!  Can I cuddle on it?"}

Here's the completed project:

Here's a Before/After of our little end table

Is it perfect? Hardly!  But I learned a lot from this project, and it will definitely be a cute and functional addition to the kids' playroom! In fact, the kids were buzzing around me the whole time I was upholstering it, and when I put in the last staple, Lucy was begging to give it a test drive...

This was fun, and I definitely plan on doing more projects soon!

XOXO,
Marcia
