home life: thanksgiving 2010

this was my first time hosting thanksgiving.  since adam, me, and the kids are vegetarians, we usually go to someone else's house, with tofurky-in-hand, and enjoy a lovely dinner there.  but, with the new floors installed, i decided i would host thanksgiving for my parents and adam's parents, and...i would even MAKE A TURKEY!  yep!  i made a turkey, and i stressed about it from the second i agreed to it, until it was on the table and in their tummies!

i smiled for the camera...but preparing the turkey was extremely gross!

i soaked the turkey overnight in a brine, then stuffed it with some fresh rosemary and basil...

and some apples, onions, and cinnamon...

then popped it in the oven

i cooked it at 500 for 30 minutes...

then put a little foil skirt on it, and put it back in the oven at 350 for a little over 3 hours, until the thermometer read 161 degrees.

here's the dinner for us vegetarians: two tofurkys with some roasted veggies!

the kids helped my mom make some of her famous rolls...

done!

adam's dad carved the turkey

lucy helped me set the table (it's not the martha stewart table i'd like, but it served it's purpose)

the finished tofurky!

tofurkys are pre-stuffed, and the tofurky stuffing is the BEST!!!

and the reason they all came...

happy turkey day!!  (and happy tofurky day to all my fellow vegetarians!!)

XOXO,
Marcia
