For starters, the fact that she took me, even though I wasn't in their records for the day, and had a genuine positive demeanor, was a big plus! But (and this was a first), she used WARM GEL!! Now, if you've ever had an ultrasound, or even had a doppler used on you, then you KNOW how cold the gel they use usually is! And it SUCKS when they put it on. But, no, this gel was nice and warm!!! Then, since Elliot was with us, she drew a picture on my belly with the nice, warm gel...just for fun.
Before she started the actual ultrasound, she asked if we wanted to know the gender of the baby, we told her yes, and within {literally} 2 seconds of starting the ultrasound, she told us the gender. I looked at Adam and we both said "Wow...you can tell already?!?" And sure enough, as the ultrasound progressed, she showed us angle after angle of HIS boy bits and pieces. YEP, I'm cooking BABY BOY #2!!!! I'll admit, I was a little shocked, because this whole time, I've had a very "girl" feeling in my gut, and I even had a dream that the baby was a girl. But, after she said it's a boy, I got a huge perma-grin that stayed with me the rest of the day! And the only thing Adam and I have to worry about at the moment...is agreeing on a name! (We already had a girl name waiting on the docket, but were having a hard time agreeing on a boy name)
In addition to finding out that the baby is a BOY, the ultrasound also showed us a few other things that we'll need to be aware of. Nothing to be worried about, mind you. But, for instance, my placenta is anterior, meaning it's in front...like a blanket on top of the baby. That just means that there's so much cushioning, that I probably won't be feeling the normal big baby kicks until he's bigger and stronger. The second thing the ultrasound tech showed us was a small cyst on his kidney. Now, this may sound scary, but actually it's quite common {especially among boys), and most of the time they go away on their own before, or shortly after birth. The up side of this is that they'll probably do another ultrasound to keep an eye on it, which means that I'll get to see him again!! YAY!! And, since the movements I've been feeling have been minimal...the additional ultrasound will be another way for me to keep tabs on what he's doing in there! So, I'm quite pleased with my ultrasound, my ultrasound tech, and the images from my ultrasound!
See how nice they are:

I'll be honest, I'm not sure what each square is a snapshot of. Well, except for the bottom left corner, that's his leg. I think the top 2 may be hands and a fist. And the bottom right MAY be the gender shot...but don't quote me on that.

And for comparison purposes:

All 3 of my babies in utero. The one on the left is Lucy, the one in the middle is Elliot, and the one on the right is the unnamed Baby Bean. You can see that ultrasounds have come a long way since 2003, and also, my ultrasound tech has a very steady hand to get Bean's profile so crisp!
So...that's the Bean update. Now that we know he's a HE, the REAL planning can begin! And believe me, since we're basically starting from scratch with most of the baby things, I've been going nuts planning. Making baby registries {that are really for me only}, and even filling up online carts, so that i can get an idea of what we need from where and for how much. We haven't bought anything yet, though. Still just getting organized, and making lists. But, the more lists I make, the more excited I get! I've still got 20 more weeks to go, though. I just hope I can get everything {and i mean EVERYTHING...house stuff AND baby stuff} done in time!
XOXO, Marcia
